Seen some people out with a little swivelling eyelet screwed into the tripod mount. Looks really handy. Despite loads of googling for various terms, the only one I can find is the extortionately priced C-loop thing for about £40. Looks like the type of thing there should be loads of options for but I’m obviously searching for the wrong thing. Any tips?!

I use one of the Black Rapid straps – http://www.blackrapid.com – not cheap, but as someone mentions above, I don’t really want to hang a digital SLR off a D-clip that might or might not be properly made. The clip the camera’s on slides up the strap which works really well for keeping the camera ready for us and carrying it neatly.

The genuine item’s expensive, but if you want a cheap copy, search for Black Rapid on eBay and a bunch of look-a-likes come up. Personally I’d rather pay for the real thing rather than trust my camera to something that could break but YMMV.

Aha – A ‘D-ring’ seems to be what I was after. The camera is worth significantly <£1k, and I’ll back it up through the strap mounts on the side in any case.

it is nice the way the lens hangs downwards – reduces the profile on your side

Aha – A ‘D-ring’ seems to be what I was after.

I’ve got one of those on the underside of my tripod shoe. Not really the swivelling mount you were looking for though.

The D ring is just a handle for unscrewing the tripod mount without a coin/key/whatever. If you attach a strap to it, it will likely unscrew itself and release the camera. It’s not for attaching a strap to.

Try something like the OP/TECH Utility strap for a purpose made alternative. I tried one yeas ago and found it a very uncomfortable way to carry and use a camera (dSLR); might be OK with a smaller body or compact type.

It’s a sling mount and they’re awesome.

Mine is a http://www.blackrapid.com but they don’t do the model I’ve got anymore.

The one made by https://luma-labs.com/ is meant to be pretty good (and for nerds, one of the two that run that was the guy who created the Java tools Ant and Tomcat). They’re overengineering the entire thing in a way I totally respect so if I got another, it would be one of those.

Still say the Peak Designs stuff is better…

The strap is made from the same stuff as car seat belts so slides easily for ‘quick-draw’.

If you get their arca plate you can use it with their Capture system that attaches to a rucksack, or belt, so keeps the camera out of the way on a trek :

and you can attach one of the looped connectors to it from the leash strap (as their arca plate has holes for mounting at the corners) and the other to one of the side mounts on the camera so the leash strap will hang the camera with the lens downwards for normal carry :

and then because you are using the arca plate you can use a tripod without having to unscrew that D ring, such as this awesome tripod :

Everyone has the right to their own preference, of course, but having a heavy DSLR dangling by my side is not comfortable or secure, IMHO. Having said that, I have just been using a sling strap (Peak Designs) with a mirrorless camera (Only OMD) and it is quite a practical way to carry it around.

(@TG – I partly agree, BUT if I’m using a tripod I’m probably using an L-plate so have to ditch the little plate that comes with the Peak Designs kit)

I’d just like to add a +1 for the Peak Design Capture Pro.
I just got back from a 2 day, off road bike packing trip with my Fuji XT1 hanging from one on my back pack. Works superbly & you barely notice the camera hanging there.
