Thinking about heading up to Cambusbarron tomorrow for a ride. Anyone here done it? Is it any good?

There's a some great cross country riding in the woods behind the quarry, and then up to North Third Reservoir and back along the crags on Lewis Hill; some of it quite demanding. And there's the dirtjump stuff, if your cup of tea.

Its great,it has plenty of different trail builders with loads secret trails all hidden away in the woods. As above DJ in the quarry, large 30ft gap jump with a classic trails with smaller jumps running above the DJ quarry area, plenty of singletrack scattered about below the Rodedendrum tunnels and there some great trails past the castle and heading down towards the curling ponds. Lots of stuff to keep you interested and to practice on. 🙂

You can also head up to North Third and loop it all together..we'll be doing this tonight if you are interested.

Thanks guys and thanks for the invite Opt1cal. Im thinking about heading up in an hour or so for a scouting mission. Looked at some you tube vids the dirt jumping is'nt my think but that looks like a cracking course.

0pt1cal; the castle you refer to – is that (the ruins of) Polmaise Castle, and the curling ponds in its former grounds?

It was never a castle…just a large house. Fell into disrepair after World War 1 and was eventually blown up by the Army in the 60s…trails littered all over the woods. Curling rink is down the very bottom and you wouldn't see it unless you knew roughly where it was…

A great place to play around in…I'm not that fussed about all the man-made stuff that is cropping up – it would be nice if it could get built away from the established trails, that way irregulars don't end up flying off something that wasn't there previously; walkers don't end up arguing with anyone on a bike about what is being done to the paths (doesn't happen often), etc. but it is great to see so many folk on bikes using the area.

If it wasn't for the trailbuilders most of the paths would not be cleared for the dog walkers in the first place. It takes plenty of maintenance to keep those trails clear…there are a few jumps on the main paths, but they've been there for years.

Most of the new trails are being built away from the main walking paths and are difficult to stumble upon if you are a walker…all features are well thought out and most are natural looking.

It's good to see trailbuilding like this in this country and not a plane ticket away.

If we are honest we are pretty much starved of good riding in the Central Belt…so long may it continue! 🙂
