    Are you doing it yourself?

I had a B reg Polo Coupe and replaced the belt myself with basic tools and a handy kerb at my old house. If memory serves, the parts were about 13 quid and it only took a couple of hours.

If you took it to a professional mechanic, they might ask for about 200 notes.

that’s what i thought. Not doing it myself no, it’s a mate’s motor and she was just cheking the approx prices.

It’s worth getting it done sooner rather than later. A new belt is generally much cheaper than a new engine.

£10.50 for a belt on my old 1.3 Coupe S. 20 mins and some Tippex to change. If you can fix a bike you do that job.

I’ve recommended the garage i know and have used. I didn’t know quite how bad the original quote she’d had was from Nationwide, but apparently they’d said she needs a new pollen filter.
There’s no pollen filter on the car.

My garage have said the cam belt doesn’t need doing, but a few small things could do with looking at, and they’ve explained what each point on her quote actually means, or doesn’t.

    She’s dead happy now.
