How do you pronounce “Wyre”? I and all my riding buddies pronounce it “Wire”. I used to live in Wyre Forest district and the council pronounced it “Wire” too.

So why am i asking? Well why does the BBC reporter Wyre Davies pronounce his name “Weir-rer” ?

What is the correct way? Are both Correct? (One Welsh, one English?)

Oh and don’t get me started on Stourbridge, Stourton, Edward Stourton and “Storton” “Stooton”

Cos Wyre Davies is Welsh, and the Wyre forest isn’t. It’s a co-incidence that both words from different languages are spelled the same.

Consider why the English word ‘chat’ and the French word ‘chat’ are pronounced differently.

Wyre Davies should be pronounced more like Oy-Ra.

    Oui ra.

You hear him say it himself plenty of times.
