can any alfine users advise me whether the rubber bellows @ the cassette joint end is essential ,or can I substitute the cable end for a standard ferrule ?

Alfine 8. no bellows. the cable just stops with a ferrule where it meets the bracket running out from the axle to hold the end of the cable.

To solve my problem I found a rubber bellows moulded, I cut the holes at the end ad it fit ok:

    modular bellows
