A colleague wants a new bike but at 6’6″ he struggles to find one that fits. He has a large (I think 62) framed Canyon road bike at the moment but it’s too small. He has rather long legs for his height so seat ends up high and bars too low.

    Requirements:

    Has to be sub £1000
Available from Chevin Cycles or Cycle Surgery (local shops he can use on C2W)
Needs guards/rack mounts for occasional touring.
    Preferred drop bar please!

I’m a short fella so I need the advice of the STW lanky folk!

CS do Trek. If they can get a 25″ Trek hybrid for him, that would fit. We had the Allant in our hire fleet last year and they were perfect for the taller rider. (FWIW, we could do him a deal on an ex-hire bike…..). No drops, but has rack and mudguards already fitted.

If the shop he’s buying from don’t know their own brands well enough to advise him then he should go elsewhere.

Might go 2nd hand via a different funding route if needed!

A Specialized Diverge Elite 64cm would fit. Sadly sold out @ Spesh though.

XL giant road bikes should be OK?

I’m pretty shocked that you can’t walk into a cycle surgery and ask them

There are a few Cycle Surgery branches, go to a bigger one and get a knowledgeable person to serve him. I’ve found the Holborn one to be pretty good

I’m on an XL defy, just under 6’4″ and with a 90mm stem and disc STIs it’s on the verge of being too big. They come with a 115mm stem as standard so should be a pretty good fit for him

I’m sure you can but I’m trying to help him consider the options he has and the pros and cons of anything available before he goes in to the shop.

I think he said the 62cm Canyon he has is too small.

XL giant defys are sized for up to 6’8 I think? I looked it up the other day

    At 6’3 I’m on a large

Giant defy is a proper road bike though, not really suitable.

All the road based giants run to that sizing though e.g. the anyroad
