  • Buying a single ring NW – do i need special bolts?

    Seeing single ring specific crank bolts available…do i need these as they look to be about £13 quid for 4 small bolts ?

    likewise do i need thoses tab shims or are the just for neatness? ie…

    FYI crank is 4 bolt sram x9 with an e13 30 tooth ring

    You can usually just flip the back of the bolts around, this will allow them to tighten down on the chainring. Obviously looks a bit shonky but it does the job at a pinch.

    search ebay for “singlespeed chainring bolts”, there’s tons and tons starting at about a fiver for 5. all colours, Ti ones for around a tenner a set too.

    Unless…you’re buying a 30T ring that is actually threaded, you can just use the existing bolts, well half of them.

    You would use either the tabs or the bolts I think.

    No, either shorter bolts OR shims.

    e13 30 tooth ring

    don’t know about that ring, but the on-one ringmaster nw ring was so thick that regular bolts fitted perfectly.

    Unless you are in a hurry, get the ring then try regular bolts (the right way round) and if they are too big, then get some specific single ring bolts.
