Had a great morning at hopton woods yesterday, first time for me and thought it was excellent.

However ,went for a sandwitch in craven arms first and when my sausage and egg sarnie arrived the bread had been buttered.

    Just no,no,no,no.

The butter is the essence of the sandwhich! Just when you thought there were a few things everybody could universally agree on!

A sandwich without an additional layer of fat (butter, mayo etc) to offer sufficient protection to the bread is simply not proper.

Sandwiches, like all the great pleasures on life, require a degree of lubrication. Butter all the way.
Nothing worse than a dry ride.

Bread is just a vehicle for butter, eschewing butter in favour of bread is like giving up sex for flirting.

Quick squiggle of salad creme on the top and bottom is a much better idea.

No no no. I love butter probably more than any of you lot, but not with fried toppings. It detracts from the inherent porkiness. Dip your bread in the pan if you must, but no butter. Save that for cold sardines, toast and crumpets, where you can taste it.

If there’s sufficient grease on the hot sausages or hot bacon then butter is not essential. A cold sandwich must have butter.

I’d agree.. I only put butter on (proper butter) If the sandwich is too dry.

But that rarely happens as theres usually mustard, some kind of pickle sauce or ketchup involved!

Only buttered if the bread is toasted obviously

    Butter tastes great
    Butter lubricates
A sandwich without butter is a joyless slap in the face of God

Next you’ll be putting skimmed milk in your tea.

Of course there should be butter. Melted butter makes absolutely everything better.

The answer is Pesto on a sausage sandwich

But butter is basically just fat.. If the sandwich has sufficient fat and/or sauce on it already I dont see the point..

That said I do like a ham or chicken sandwich to have mustard and a filthy dollop of full fat mayo!

    Shropshire folk are strange.
You’re lucky it was just butter on your breakfast sarnie and not a horses head in your bed.
I always keep my doors locked when I ride round that way.

On this, I have to agree with ton, margarine is synthetic nastiness, and does not a sandwich make.
    Fact.

I didn’t realise simply slapping objects between bread would be something one would even consider eating, let alone calling it a sandwich.

    Margarine is just grim.
