  • Burning Stuff onto DVD or CD – What's the difference?

I suppose you can get more stuff onto a DVD yes?

But what’s the difference – is it that if we use a DVD-R, it can only be read by a pc/mac with a DVD drive (which everything has these days anyway doesn’t it)?

(mrs deadly needs to physically burn something on to media – and all we have in the house is a stack of DVD-Rs)

If it’s just data, no difference. Just need a DVD burner to burn it and a DVD reader to read it.

Bit more info, old bean. Are we talking audio or video files for playback? Just documents/folders storage?

Bottom line is, put it on a flash drive 😉

You may laugh, but where she’s freelancing is a bit sensitive about employees and freelancers bringing flash drives to site. In other words, if she’s caught bringing her own flash drive there, it would be her last day.

It’s some design work (not confidential) – she’s already sent it by sendspace – it’s just as a back-up. Sounds like DVD-Rs will be fine. 🙂

No laughing here, in that type of environment it makes perfect sense.

    …and yes, DVD-R is fine.

If the stuff has to be readable at some undetermined time in the future bear in mind that DVD is nowhere as reliable as CD, and if you must use DVDs use DVD+R not DVD-R, as the DVD+R system has more accurate speed control and tracking, and superior error correction.

Ok, it’s just that you always laugh at me – speshly with techie questions. 😛

Cheers though. Sounds like DVD-R will do it then.

Thanks Tucker, but it’s only for tomorrow. Not long term. 🙂

Can she use DropBox? Probably not if they are that anal about USB sticks, but worth a try if she can.

She’s used Sendspace geoffj – this is only for back-up.

It’s flash-drives they go apeshit about – dunno why. You’d never think vacuum cleaners were that big a deal.

…and this is one example why her company are like that.
