    Mornign all,

My friend is trying to build up a longhaul trucker.

What vbrakes can he use with levers on the drops?

Also what do people recommend for the shifters, bar end shifters or mtb trigger shifters?

Use any v brakes you want and buy travelagents to correct the pull

Tektro RL520 levers and bar end shifters.

I’ve got a disc trucker. I love the bar end shifters but I don’t like the tektro brake levers, they’re not comfortable in the way shimano STI goods are, in fact I was close to getting blisters between my thumb and forefinger on both my hands during a 5 day tour last month. Temporary solution was to angle the bars up more but that means my levers are pointing forward in a ‘my bike is my weapon’ kind of way. So I’m considering my options and keep thinking about either bullhorn bars or midge bars with bar end shifters and who knows what levers. HTH!

Cheers all, so when the lever description says direct pull, then they are ok for vbrakes

There’s 3 options for mtn cable discs/v-brakes with drop levers. The RL520 are one, there’s Dia-Compe 287V’s and Cane Creek Drop-V. Or you can use standard road levers with a Travel Agent, or with road BB7s.

ok, one more question to do with the shifters. I want to run a 34-11 cassette, does it matter what shifter I buy whether it can cope with that range

Shifter shouldn’t matter, Ian, as long as the mech can cope with the range (ie, short cage mech might not work, Med or Long should.)

I got a set of Cane Creek V drop levers on EBay for about 20 Euro, they look good too

More specifically, I’m looking at the dura ace bar end shifters,

    http://www.bikeradar.com/gear/category/components/gear-shifters/product/review-shimano-dura-ace-sl-bs79-bar-end-shifters-09-34678

so they should work with an 11-34 shadow xt rear mech

sorry pyro, just saw your post, so it is the mech that matters, and not the shifter, thats what i thought
