A friend is looking to buy a bike, they’re new to mtb and are struggling to find the right bike due to conflicting advice from various people, most shops are saying 29er ht, but what do you think? He’ll mainly be riding around Rivington and trail centres although I think I’ll be able to twist his arm to some riding in the lakes and the like, so a trail geo would be best.

You can get a Giant Trance for that sort of money. Pretty sure there might be some other equally good options around that price point.
