When we were just about to set off for a spin this morning one of our group was complaining of what felt like a loose headset. We all gathered round to give patronising advise on how to correctly tighten his headset as you do but quickly realised that the headset was fine and the play was coming from the fork steerer.
The forks were then removed from the bike and it turns out that the steerer was loose in the crown of the fork. Just backwards and forwards, side to sides fine and the steerer doesn’t rotate either.

Has anyone else ever had this problem and is there a fix? Or are rockshox likely to do him any favours as they’re outside warranty (assuming a 1year warranty)

Rockshox seem to be pretty good re sorting things out as long as you go via the retailer you bought them from. My Lyriks had premature corrosion under the paint on the crown and merlin were able to sort it very quickly for free..

I had that on a pair of Psylos back in the day… Terminal failures like that are usually remedied especially easily…
