I was thinking of flying to the alps this summer with BA and have just been told that it is now £28 each way per bike and it has to be under 23kg. I am sure it used to be free. Does anyone know when this changed and if the £28 fee is correct?

    Cheers

yes they are correct. it was free and then changed over last Nov.

If travelling within the EU you just get 1 free checked baggage allowance meaning you will need to pay for the additional cycle baggage.

It also depends on the class of ticket you are travelling on e.g. Club Europe would get 2 free checked bags whilst Euro traveller only gets 1 checked bag.

This makes them considerably more expensive than they used to be compared to other airlines.
