Just sorted a holiday in Bormio with a couple of things on the hit list… the run from Stelvio to Umbrail then on to Pendolo and another, Passo Zebru in the same area. There is YouTube for these two.

We are also looking at a run off the top of the ski area, Bormio 3000 but there is little info on this… anyone done it and can help out ? Google earth isnt helping as the image of the mountain is from winter and there is snow cover.

There’s snow cover in summer too.

I haven’t cycled round there, but drove up the Stelvio in August, and was greeted by super skinny roadies and people clumping around in ski boots at the top.

was on top of Stilfser Joch (…. not Stelvio… have some respect for the down trodden South Tyroleans!) last week. the Goldsee Trail, (admittedly runs north, but goes to 2800m) wasn’t passable. in fact there was still quite alot of snow cover above 2400m.

the Umbrail Trail is GOOD, but technical.

yeah, bit of a paradox on Stilfser… the skiing is only open from mid April/May to October as snow prevents you reaching the top. skiing is only open till 1pm as after that the snow is too soft.

when you are there buy a sausage from Rcihard’s Wurstel stand and say hello from the Englander… 🙂

Thanks Alpin, good info. Umbrail to Forcola on YouTube looks straightforward with a big drop on the Pendolo descent… is that what you mean by Technical ?

Currywurst if available is a pre ride must do…
