  • Bored for the next twelve weeks – what should I do out buy?

I have the joy of twelve weeks with zero load on my right leg. In a cast so no swimming or driving. Normally I buy a play station and driving game but was wondering if there was anything new and better to act a chewing gum for my brain.

Learn to wheelie your wheelchair. Or learn to walk about on the crutches – as in only on the crutches, no use of either foot.

    What could possibly go wrong.

“Normally?” Does this happen often? How many Playstations do you have now?

Personally I’d suggest an Xbox and Red Dead Redemption. Or if you’re sold on the PS3, Heavy Rain and a raft of TV box sets.

On reflection, 12 weeks is quite long time!

Last time I had an injury seious enough to keep me off work, I only managed 4 days (supposed to be 3 weeks) and then headed back to the office. I’m not a workaholic, but when you’re injured and sat in the house alone, there’s not a lot to do, I was climbing the walls after a day.

The joy of DHC and red wine at 8am on a Monday morning soon wears off.

Not sure of your personal/work circumstances, but is there somewhere you can go for a while? Just to break up the boredom of sitting around the house all day with nothing to do?

Cougar – yes normally a play station our what ever is the latest version. I have had a PS1, XBOX, PS2 and aWii so far following major injurious.

Binners – already hung like an ox that is what I do while recovering from minor injurious

Just finished nearly 4 months of non weight bearing on my right leg.

My tips are walk as much as you can on the crutches and do as many leg exercises as you can. Should easily fill at least two or three hours a day with exercise. I trudged nearly a mile every day to get the paper – you will get quite fast after a few weeks. Use your time to keep yourself as fit as possible.

Back up activity was Airfix models to remind me of my youth!

Build yourself a set of wheels. Seriously.

Buy some decent hubs, rims and spokes, make a brew, shove Six Music on and have a go. I found the whole process incredibly therapeutic

Oh… the first one you do will look weird as you’ll have done it wrong, so take it all apart, and start again

Have you thought about mobility scooter off roading?

I like the idea of Airfix though, that would be on my list 😉

[edit] hope you get sorted soon wca

    @WCA

    1) healing vibes to you
    2) from Wiki – Oxen are commonly castrated adult male cattle; castration makes the animals more tractable. 😯
    3) read some books, folk on here recommended Racing Through the Dark, it was excellent.
    4) language idea was a good one, it’s easy to tweak little and learn bike words for example. I find it more fun to learn by reading articles online about sports subjects I like, knowing a bit of French and German is very useful for getting route ideas from “their” forums
    5) research some trips for when you are better
    6) as above work out what physio/excesizes you can do, I “did” my ACL when I was younger and was stunned by the muscle wasting in that leg after just a few weeks.

coul dyou not have timed it to coincide with the cycling grand tours being on telly?

I got a World Cup when I broke my hip 🙂

I wouldn;t underestimate how tiring just doing day to day stuff when zero weight bearing on one leg will be, either. I had a zimmer frame for ablutions as it’s more stable than trying to balance on one leg and one crutch and I hated washing sitting down.

Healing knackers you too – particularly if you’re in pain too.

any interest in modelling (Tamiya type stuff)?

If you have a PC get Fallout 3 and the expansion packs – there’s a 100-odd playing hours there.

When finished, get Fallout New Vegas.

    Happy healing WCA.

12 weeks will fly by. Think of it as an opportunity.

Another vote for a guitar. It’s a great thing to do, and something that you can take as far as you want.

Learn a language. Either to speak, or a comupter one.

Knit some scarves for Christmas presents. Smoke some weed and spend hours playing a ps3, eating pizza, drinking beer and cramming haribo in your mouth. You could also become a big hitter and troll around interweb forums.
