Looking at new cars and we’ve been thinking of a Sharan. We don’t need 7 seats but it could come in handy some times.

Does any one know what the boot space is like in a 7 seat Touran with the seats down, compared to an estate passat? I currently have a 53 plate passat, the older squarer one, and need the boot space for trips to the pyrenees a few times a year, inc 2 kids.

Can’t compare with the Passat, but the boot area in our Touran (in 5 seat configuration) is good, but given that the Passat & Touran are built on similar floorpans, I’d expect the pan area to be similar. The bonus with the Touran is extra height, especially if you fit a dog-guard to stop the higher level stuff sliding forward and squashing the kids!

Note that in 7 seat configuration the boot space is tiny (maybe only 25 – 30cms deep) and you need to either be a child or loose all feeling in you legs to travel in the back 2 seats!

Next time, we’re buying a van!!

Yeah that’s what i was thinking, I’ll probably go for the Sharan, but there seems to be some well priced Tourans around and they look nicer than the old shape Sharan and I can’t afford the new version at the moment.

Got the new shape sharan last year and the boot is massive… can get my fs bike in there with both wheels on. Just slide the middle row seats forward and in it goes. Had a discovery before the sharan and can safely say the boot is bigger in the Sharan

We were looking at the old Sharon when we bought the Touran – be aware that the old shape is based on a very old design (circa 1999)shared with the SEAT Alhambra and Ford Galaxy with just facelifts and has a NCAP rating of 1 (or maybe even 0) from memory (if those kind of things are important to you).

My OH didn’t like the Alhambra (felt it wallowed and was bus-like) whereas the Touran feels far more car-like.

I really want the new shape Sharan but the wife might be looking at redundancy soon, hopefully not though, so can’t really spend too much. Our current car is making some noises I don’t like and we have a trip to the pyrenees coming up so it might have to be a stop gap for a year or two, before pulling the trigger on new shape Sharan.

Want to keep it VAG as I like them and we have a very reliable garage that specialises in VW/Audis who know us well now.

I could get my tourer in the boot of my passat wheels on laid flat – with the back seat down. you could also sleep in it laid flat, I’m 6ft 😯

I have a Passat estate and the missus has a Touran, her boot seems much bigger, when rear seats down

It’s also much higher

She loves her Touran

Toyota avensis has bigger boat than Passat (though I do appreciate this is in no way connected to you’re thread………)
