  • Boiler leaked… what to do about wet ceiling?

    Hi Chaps,

Our Unvented Cylinder tank leaked overnight, we’ve managed to stop the leak and have a part on order. But the ceiling to the downstairs bathroom is still very wet.

It’s a pasterboard covering, do we just leave it to dry out? Or do we remove the pasterboard and fit new stuff?

Really not my area of expertise!

    Cheers

    Ricks

If it’s bulging pull it down.

Let it dry out, if it’s soft and blown then get rid and reboard/skim.

If it’s just stained then paint it when dry

Let it dry – if you’ve got a lot of water then drill a hole to let it drain.

We’ve had a couple of leaks – one was plasterboard out as it was easier to find and fix the leak from below, the other was a failed mains water inlet seal on the loo – that spread all over the ceiling – let to dry, stain sealer, then whole ceiling repainted

Cheers guys – not bulging. I’ll keep the heating on then, and get it dry!

Have you got a portable (desk) fan? if so get the running, ideally within the space where the leak occurred. Getting air flowing around the damp patch will help to remove the moisture in addition to the heat from your radiators.
