Went back to West Woods again yesterday, ‘cos the sun was shining. Lots more people up there, hardly anyone at all on the far side where the bluebells are at their best.
Their loss, it was lovely and quiet with barely a soul to be seen.

For anyone who wants to find the best location for the bluebells in West Woods, near Marlborough, you want to aim for the Wansdyke Path, from the car park, aiming for Strawberry Ground in the bottom south-west, which is where most of mine were taken.

There’s plenty of cracking photos of bluebells here.

I didn’t get out quite early enough to catch the bluebells in their full splendour but here’s a few photos from around the North Downs. It seems like they’re not as vibrant as previous years but that might be because I was late to the party, there did seem to be a lot more plants than usual.

Sorry for the poor quality camera phone images.

As someone who grew up in the Chilterns and currently lives in australia this thread is making me horrifically homesick, cheers guys. Will try and dig out a few pics i took when home last year. In my humble opinion the woods heading henleywards from nettlebed have the finest bluebell display out there. With honourable mention the woods behind checkendon near blue tin farm shop and a bit further away the ribbon of singletrack above paradise bottom in leigh woods, bristol.
Dammit, i need a trip back in spring.

The Jubilee Drive bluebell shower attracts a lot of opportunistic snappers, not to mention some dangerous parking and moves. Viewed from British Camp –

I rode this trail last week. It wasn’t like this. Happy face. The nettles which line the trail have also grown above the ankle sock to knee height. Not so happy face.

Adds to favourite thread of the year nominations.

32 years ago I lived just up the road from those blue bells on the side of the Malverns. When I did there were hardly any bluebells on that patch of the hills, there were also very few trees. How it’s changed!!

I was going back over the photos I took this year with a friend in the pub last night, and I reckon this year has been pretty damned good, I’m really happy with the pics from West Woods, difficult to see how the colour and spread could have been much better, really.
I’ll be back over there next year, just to make sure, though…
