There is always a simple test for whether or not a song is good.

    1. Insert into CD player, select on iPod, etc.
    2. Press play.
    3. Listen
    4. Do you (A) like it or (B) not like it?
    5. If (A) it’s good, if (B), it’s not!

    😉

Most Bob Dylan songs are good songs, imo.

When sung by anyone but Bob Dylan.

    exactly.

I saw a Finnish band called L’Amourder supporting New Model Army on tour once (well, more than once, I think I saw about 5 gigs on that tour), many years ago. They did a mighty fine version of Blowing In The Wind.

and then there’s this version of Knocking On Heaven’s Door.
    Waaay better than G’n’R, IMO

That’s the first time Dylan has allowed one of his songs to be used for an advert – apparently

FFS if you like it you like it, or are you really that insecure about yourself?

    I did like it.
Then, years ago, I learned to play the guitar to it.
    I got sick of it.

It is now just starting to regain it’s value again.

Wasn’t it just the concept for the Maxell ads? (Skids/Desmond Dekker)

Love it, love most of dylans songs. Sung by him. Sung by anyone else totally screws them up.

Well, following the link antigee posted, I have been giving dylan a listen.

Fraid I had to turn it off, by Rolling Stone, as his whiny, nasally voice just got too much.

I’ll reiterate: Great songwriter, terrible singer.

Sorry, but it has to be said.

His song writing ability can not be questioned
His singing may not be to everyone’s taste

…but surely everyone can agree that his **** harmonica playing is dreadful?

    **** harmonica playing

goes off to google if Joan Baez had an opinion on this

I like it. I like early Dylan quite a bit.

Doesn’t matter that his singing/playing is a bit pants, that’s part of it imo. The music was a reaction to popular culture I think, hence it’s simplicity and crudeness but yet not at the same time. Kind of like punk.

NB I am too young to have been there so may be talking bolx.

I’m not in a position to judge Hendrix – what I’ve heard of his work was “good”, I dont see all the fuss but then I prefer words to music.
