I normally drink single malt but was wondering, is there such a thing as good blended whisky? Or am I better sticking to malts.

Black bottle is among the better blends IMO

Nothing wrong with blended whisky. If having a few drams I tend to move onto a blend so as not to waste a good malt. I quite like Famous Grouse and Black Bottle.

The Antiquary is a good one.

There are some good blends around – try Bailie Nicol Jarvie, or Johnnie Walker green label (think this has Caol Ila in it, if you like your whisky a bit peaty). I must admit I don’t mind a drop of Teachers and stuff like that – there’s always place for cooking whisky! Plus it makes you appreciate the malts even more!

Bailie, Nicol & Jarvie is good.
Bought my brother a Japanese blend that was lovely…..I’ll try and remember the name.

    Edit: hadn’t seen that ^^^^!

Monkey shoulder is like paint stripper. Black grouse is supposed to be good.

Has anyone ever tried snow grouse?

I haven’t but my “100 whiskys to try before you die” book says it’s bloody horrible. It’s mentioned in the review of the black grouse stuff which they rated really highly.

Black grouse is good but I wasn’t keen on the snow grouse myself.

All my favaourite blends tend to start with Black; Bush, Bottle and Label. Not tried Grouse

My wife bought a bottle of Black Grouse for me last week – I generally go for single malts but really like it. Almost too drinkable. On offer at Asda at the moment too.

Best whiskey I have ever tasted was a blend, “Middleton very rare” it was much smoother than some of the single malts I’ve tried.

That’s the point of a lot of the blender’s art, to smooth out the taste of the single malts. You can get blends of malt only, or most of the ‘cooking’ blends include a mix of malt and grain whisky.
