So I recently got a set of XTR brakes off here and had to change the hose so out a new BH90 hose.

The rear one is spot on, bleeds with the shimano bleed bucket by just filling the bucket with mineral oil and opening the bleed nipple.

However, the front will not do this. I get no fluid coming out of the bleed nipple this bleeding this way. I can force fluid up from the bleed nipple but nothing will bleed from the lever to calliper

Is this normal? Am I doing the bleed wrong?

    Reach or point adjust, maybe?

Free stroke should be fully screwed out on the xt brakes. Possibly the same on xtrs

Yep, check the free stroke adjuster.

    That was the problem.
