Today I have taught someone the start of the solo from Run To The Hills, someone else the first solo in Sanitarium and someone else Black Magic Woman in full. Good day all things considered!

And, chosen by the man himself, Alex Lifeson’s favourites.

And, from Five Man Acoustical Jam. Love Song.

Bear in mind, this was one of the first “Unplugged” albums, from a bunch of hair metal poodle rockers.

Neil Young maybe isn’t the greatest technically but music has to be about more than technical proficiency. This song makes the hairs stand up.

Some great stuff here, I’d have gone for that live version of Sultans of Swing too but this is probably my favourite cover version. Not a blistering solo (from about 1:47) by any means but great phrasing and I love the guitar tone.

It was many years ago. I had never heard of Joe Bonamassa. Planet Rock said, here’s Sloe Gin, by Joe Bonamassa.

It started well, so I turned it up. I was working from home that day. I stopped working. I listened, rapt in the utter brilliance.
