    What are your thoughts?

    Looks nice.

    What’s special about it?

Apparently, it’s got lots of dynamic range, so the movies look like proper cinema cameras, and it’s no bigger than a normal m43 camera. It’s also the price of a mid-range camcorder but takes basically any SLR or CSC lens you can think of, with adapters. Including all mine 🙂

Had a little search about it. Looks good, surprisingly cheap too. (not that I can afford it, but a lot less than I expected)

    Raw video would be great.

I know a few folk who have pre-orders on these…the x3 crop would put me off though.

Ok so its a really small sensor so although any lens will work anything vaguely wide angle will need to be specialist. Presumably Nikon 1 would be the best bet?

I’ve just ordered a film on DVD, called After The Triumph Of Your Birth, which features Maria McKee. The whole film was shot for $550, entirely on a Canon EOS 5C, so I can see how a dedicated little camera like this, in the hands of someone who’s really creative, could produce something worthwhile.
See here for a review of the film:

Apparently the American series of “Wilfred” is shot on a Canon 7d.

I think some of the folk commenting have no idea on what it is and what it can do. 🙂

I’m one of them. It’s black and looks cool, I want one.

This is STW after all so what did you expect?
Was interested but it doesn’t have a global shutter and now we have the magic lantern raw firmware for the 5D3 so it’s not on my shopping list.
I like what blackmagic are doing though, epsecially Davinci resolve.

No. It’s micro4/3 so an extensive range of lenses available. There will be a lot of super16 lenses out there that will cover the sensor too.

yes the mount is micro fourthirds. So maybe Nikon 1 won’t have an adapter

but the sensor isn’t. Its smaller so wide angle will be harder to achieve

    What can it do?

I’m in the market, so how does this comapre with a 4/3 camera run as video or even with a D5000 which i already have?

Blackmagic vs. Canon 5D Mk III RAW.
I had actually read articles about the Blackmagic a while ago, but it looked different to the one above, sort of wedge shaped.

Nikon1 lenses have no aperture ring and focus by wire so not exactly ideal and possibly no adapter as the lens to sensor distance is potentially shorter.
Loads of M4/3 adapters going the other way (to bigger formats) and lots of 16mm lenses out there that don’t breathe, are parfocal, wider than 10mm and faster T-stops.

The wedge shaped camera is more expensive (though still a bargain)

That’s the current camera that has had a few problems and can only shoot upto 2.5k. The one above is a lot smaller and can shoot upto 4k, although doing so requires some serious storage space.

One thing I should mention for those that don’t know, it doesn’t take stills. This will rule it out for many I would have thought, especially with what Magic Lantern are doing with the Canon DSLR’s firmware.

It looks to me like a small video camera with interchangeable lenses and apparently cinematic quality.. is there more to it than that?

It’s meant to be the next big deal in budget filmmaking. I want one although lack of highspeed framerates is something I’d still miss.
