I’ve a bikepacking sort of ‘mates race’ mapped out in my head, using some lesser known trails around NW Lakes. I’m thinking a bit like Polaris Challenge, but minimal rules, cost, hassle. Suitable for newbies to bikepacking or practice for ITT events – an excuse to get out and about.
Mass start 10am Saturday, arrive back between 3 and 4pm Sunday, to camp site near pub. In between you visit as many checkpoints as you can. I’ll provide maps with checkpoints and a suggested basic route (GPX track too). Extra checkpoints for extra scores will be off the GPX and will require more nav/planning. No rules on accommodation – bivi, tent, 5* hotel or ride right through. Emergency van if desperate.
Suggested £10 donation to nominated charity for entry (Cancer Research, for various reasons). ‘Winner’ will return on time with highest score and will plan/host next year in a different area. Max 40 riders.
March 18-20, Keswick area start.
