For some one who should really know better, and someone who regularly harps on to others about keeping their bikes in order i have been truley humbled in the last two days.

    Yesterday:

flat tyre miles from home, no pump!! long walk

Got home and found i had let the tyre sealant dry up…6 months since last filled!!

noticed creaking noise but decided that bike spray would fix this.

    Today:
Half way to work the chainring fell off spider!!!! that would be the creaking noise then..
Checking over components when i eventually arrive at work and the rear brake caliper was also very loose…that would be the annoying rubbing and slight rattle then..

Conclusion…Practice what you preach my man.

try this… carry a Leatherman multi-tool religiously for 6 months. Then one ride decide to ditch it and spare the weight. And on that ride have your gear cable pull through and shred at the 8 mile mid point…

    I’ll just get my leatherm…. F………!!!

Never thought about the sealant drying up!
How often should you top it up?

It depends – normally, if you can’t hear it sloshing when you shake the wheel it’s time to top it up. I normally bung a bit more in through the valve evry 2-3 months.

Ok thanks, I’d better go and have a listen to my wheels then! 🙂
