I’m looking for a 1.8m or thereabouts 8 to 10mm cable lock to secure 2/3 bikes together during cafe/pub stops.

I know cable locks aren’t the most secure but weight (or lack of it) is important and it’s only intended to stop a hop-on-and-ride-away type theft.

Are key locks inherently more secure than combination type ones?

Are there any better types to be looking at?

Depends. Any cheap lock is pretty easy to get into, but with combinations you can do it with no tools. Good combinations are harder, but still tool-less, so still more vulnerable.

Thanks, that’s that way I was thinking too.

Will look for a keyed one
