I just wanted to post a quick update about Bike Club.
It's set to be a good project and I was wondering if any of you lot might be interested.
We're a joint project from CTC and a couple of youth charities. Cycling England have given us some funding to encourage children and young people to learn through riding bikes. In particular we're thinking about youngsters who could really use the experience – maybe the ones who have trouble at school, the ones from poorer households, or from ethnic groups where cycling isn't big.
Our hope is that with the aid of bikes, we can help some young people to try new stuff, learn life skills and keep healthy.
There are different ways we hope to do this. With some groups we'll be setting up off-road sessions, with others we might do road training, bike maintenance or trailbuilding. It depends what each group of young people need.
Our first bunch of staff have just started work, and they're focussing on these areas:
Bristol and Exeter
Woking and Brighton
Colchester, Cambridge and Southend
Aylesbury and Leighton Linslade
Sheffield, Derby and Leicester
Blackpool and Lancaster
York and Darlington
So if any of those places are your local patch, and you know a group of children or young people, generally aged between 10 and 20, who might appreciate our help, let us know. Either give me a shout, or get in touch with your local Bike Club officer. http://bikeclub.org.uk/contact-us/
Thanks,
Clive
