Should a bike box be openable by customs or is it preferable to padlock it?

I have an Alan Bike Box which has zip-tie loops and a sticker advising customs to snip the zip ties if they need to view the contents, but I’m obviously a little concerned about the opportunity to pilfer the contents…

I’ve padlocked mine when flying with it. Customs have scanners etc if they want to see what’s in there, and if they want to take a closer look they can ask me to open it up.

I only use piddly little padlocks anyway so they’re only there as a deterrent.

TSA compliant padlocks might be a good answer.

Good point about scanners, I think I’ll lock it…
