A friend has purchased a second hand soft bike bag, it looks similar to the Polaris one. He is travelling to Tenerife in a few weeks and accidentally booked 3 suitcases when he only needed 2.

He has contacted Ryanair who have stated over the phone that this bike bag can take the place as one of his cases at no extra cost, he has combined 45kgs.

Does anyone have any experience of this? Seems like a far cheaper way of taking a bike as the cost of case is far cheaper than a bike bag. I feel he is going to be charged at the airport the extra cost.

Nobody at the airline will commit themselves or even know. It will be down to the interpretation of the muppet on check in on the day and their superior will be forced to support their decision, right or wrong. So assume nothing.

Ring back and ask again, tape the conversation and get a name. Or be prepared to be firm but polite at check-in. It helps if you are holding up a large queue on a busy weekend.
