A while ago I posted about which new TV and have that sorted in my head now, next step is how to get a picture to new TV.

New room is built and in the process of being decorated ready for use and I don’t know the best way to get stuff to the TV. Currently we have a standard Virgin Media HD set up in the front room, but nothing to feed TV in new room, what is the best solution?

The best way is one HDMI cable from your TV to a home cinema amp and plug all your source devices into your amp using your amp as a switching device and relegating your TV to a basic monitor. Then you can plug whatever source devices into your amp as you see fit….Sky box or freesat/free view box, Apple TV or similar device, Blu Ray, games consoles etc…the world is your oyster. You also relegate all your remotes to one as most home cinema amps come with programmable remotes. Nice and neat for cables too as you havn’t got a spaghetti junction of cables going to your TV.

Edit, sorry thought you were talking about connecting everything up. You just need to get a satellite and aerial cable to it, assuming all your Internet streaming stuff is via WiFi. Unfortunately in my set up I forgot about this and had to resort to running cables outside the house and drilling through the wall.

Should have thought about this before it was decorated so you could channel everything into the wall ! Power, HDMI, satellite & LAN should cover most eventualities.

We recently did the same for the bedroom, except I didn’t run HDMI. I don’t need it as we only use freesat / iPlayer / Netflix there but definitely would in the lounge.

We have power up on the wall where the TV will go so that’s one cable issue out of the way. Like the idea of the single amp to run everything. Might need to take a trip to a specialist media shop to talk to an expert, if possible I want it all wireless but no r sure if possible. Thanks for the comments.

OP what’s the wifi reception like in the room ? You might consider a powerline and/or running an ethernet cable alongside any satelite cable, more and more stuff is going online/streaming. I do find from time to time Apple TV via the Wifi drops out even with the router in the same room.

I would imagine your Virgin contract would be like my old Sky one in that officially the single set has to be in one specific room but clearly many people just ignore that and have multiple sets off the same feed.
