Soapy water – didn’t even touch it
    Meths – nadda
White Spirit – removed a few balls of loose gunk, but barely touched it.
Petrol (well, 100:1 2t mix as it’s all I had) – worked, but still too 15 minutes to clean a seatstay with a microfibre cloth.

    a) WTF is this stuff that peels off when you don’t want it to, but is as sticky as a wrapperless week old boiled sweet left in the car.
    b) What gets rid of it? Would a green scouring pad mark the paint if used in conjunction with petrol?

A scouring pad will probably mark the paint. You might need a dedicated glue removal product like Autosmart Tardis.

Heating it up a little helps- it tends to roll off when warm. Either that or actually soaking it in isopropyl- not just wiping with a cloth but soaking a rag and leaving it on the bike for a while.

Try nail polish remover, usually works with the sticky gunk off most decals and safety stickers!

Maplin do a label remover, which is a good solvent, should get it off, about £3.50 for an aerosol….

    car bug/tar remover

    WD40
