UK Climbing forums have good classifieds. Obvious care needed when buying second hand although the climbing community are by and large trustworthy (and self-policing with regard to whether kit is saleable or not) in the same way that the STW crowd are here.

Otherwise, go and support your local climbing shop. It'll be staffed by people who know lots about climbing and will be only too happy to tell you anything you need to know.

Go-outdoors are good value for kit too.

You would be mad to buy any climbing gear second hand !
Go support your local shop, get decent advice and buy with confidence.

Needlesports in Keswick used to do good prices on their own quickdraws, they might also do you a deal if you buy everything together. Certainly, most of your list there, I wouldn't buy 2nd hand.

If your new to the sport then buy local. Joining the BMC is a good idea as this will give you 10% in most shops, as well as public liability insurance.

If you need to go mail order try:

    or:

    http://www.rockrun.com/

Second hand is an option, but you really must be sure of the provenance of the gear.

Its certainly not mad to buy second hand climbing gear although you do need to be conscious of its provenance. UKC is a very good place to get well looked after equipment foir cheap. I have bought and sold loads of stuff on there. I don't think you get a good price for climbing equip from the independent shops though its a good place for advice as they are generally staffed by active climbers. You are most likely to get a discount at Cotswolds, they give discounts to CTC, BMC, Army, navy and scores of other groups and clubs.

most other places, rocknrun etc… are V expensive and are run by the climbing equivalent of ramblers
