+1 on this, for my missus on this subject too
Though some decent sci-fi for me would be nice too

    One Day by David Nicholls.

My wife bought this for me then read it herself first and loved it. She thought it it might not be for me but I’m half way through and it’s one of the best books I’ve read in a long time. Nothing like the Millennium trilogy which I also enjoyed but a very good read that I think appeals as much to men as women.

I have read all the Lee Child Reacher books over the last year or two and enjoyed all of them

Now Jack Reacher is real hero!

Doesn’t have to be anyting like the Millenium books.

We have also enjoyed books like Shadow of the Wind & A thousand splendid suns.

It’s in the Fantasy/Sci Fi section but I enjoyed Joe Abercrombie’s First Law trilogy

Jack Reacher books are quite good but very very very very silly indeed and the author is clearly a repressed raging homo.

Not sure if it’s out in paperback yet but Kraken by China Miéville is a damn fine read.
