• Best live double albums?

I nominate this as I always found the production on the studio albums lacking. This is the real deal and headphones on you get really sucked into it.

The Alchemy Live by Dire Straits. Also the live side of Ummagumma by Pink Floyd, but that’s not a live double album, strictly speaking.

Alchemy is super.

Love the GnR Live Era album, though.

Especially for the epic jam session version of Move to the City. “Ladies and gentlemen, the band!”

I was going to say Cream, Disraeli Gears but that’s one album live/ one album studio so doesn’t count (good shout on Allman Brothers above though).
I have Alchemy and Babylon by Bus in my vinyl collection and I’ll raise you by The Who, Live at Leeds 8)

Alchemy is a great one.

Interesting that the big live double albums all seem to be from an earlier era; it’s almost as if with the advent of stadium venues the gigs have got smaller! Or is it down to the fact that you can get more onto a CD than you can on a single piece of vinyl?

Seeing as not all those albums up ^ are double albums i’ll include some of my my favourites, not rock music so perhaps controversial for a live album.

Frightened Rabbit – The Midnight Organ Fight

Jeff Buckley – Live At Sin-E

Jeff Mills – Blue Potential with Montpellier Orchestra

Nils Frahm – Spaces

I’m heading to the Paradiso (Amsterdam) to see Nils Frahm in march…..gonna be quite a trip 😉

My second choice. Once again you get the full oomph of the song and not the tinny studio production.

Decade of aggression by slayer.

Can’t understand why people like metallica when slayer are so much better.

Live in a world full of hate by sick of it all is also a goodun.

If you only listen to one Van Morrison album (and you really need to hear more) then make it this one from 1973. Nobody does emotion like Van.

No excuses, it’s here:

Mano Negra: “in the Hell Of Patchinko” is one of my favourite records ever.
Also despite the mixed reviews I like “stage” by Bowie.
And the first side of G’n’R’s ‘Lies’ of course.

I thought Ummagumma too – showing my age there. But since it’s only half live, how about?

Not a double album, but has double the impact.
