    Hey,

I’m after some frame protection tape for… 4-5 bikes – so am reluctant to drop £25 per bike for Bike Shield or some other branded kit that doesn’t always match the tubes on the bike anyway…

There are loads of generic helitapes on eBay but obviously want something decent that doesn’t yellow and won’t remove paint/leave lots of residue if removed. Especially on one bike which has a recent powder coat which I’m not totally convinced has adhered as well as it could have,

Who can suggest a decent place to buy large amounts of clear frame tape, in basic strips so can be cut to suit ?

    I await your wisdoms.

I’ve used printing vinyl a few times now without any issue. Got mine for next to nothing from the local sign printers 🙂

Interested in this, though I only need a few bits to protect a s/h bike from cable rub.

How thick is printing vinyl? I’m after clear tape for the main tubes which is as ‘invisible’ as possible…

I like the Venture Shield from Demon Tweeks. Choice of thickness, 150 same as invisiframe, 300 good for under downtube. Sometimes it comes with 3M branded backing, sometimes not, but I couldn’t tell any difference in the tape. Easy to work with, much easier than the matt Rhino film I’ve also recently used.

    Or via their ebay shop.

Is biketart no longer the stock answer, here?

That would depend on who answers.

I thought Viking were the least expensive supplier of 3M tape, including the 3M8671HS version recommended for use on bikes.

not got any (yet) but Effetto Shelter gets good reviews and sounds good for downtube, it’s over 1mm thick

One bought a few different ones over the lay could of years.

All seemed much of a muchness until I bought some 3M branded stuff.

It’s an order of magnitude better than the other stuff I bought.

    Thicker and more “rubbery”.

Easier to apply to compound curves and lasts much better.

Clear gorilla tape. Done a couple of bikes, never had any problems

Used clear gorilla repair tape on my last frame. Cheaper and just as good as all the different types of copter tape I’ve used.
