Angelo Badalamenti’s score for Twin Peaks has been in the pile of cds by my bed for years

Snap. One of my fave albums, ever. The soundtrack to Mulholland Drive is also excellent.

Great suggestions so far – a few more.

Hans Zimmer is great in maaaasssive cinema soundsystem stylee:

I loved Clif Martinez’s stuff in Traffic:

And this is a classic (from Brian Eno’s Apollo soundtrack):

And the Last of the Mohicans is based on The Gael by Dougie MacLean – here on splendid live form:

chiefgooveguru – I think you’ve nailed it. I own that album, along with the others I mentioned. It’s so good it can stand on its own as a brilliant album.

+1 I was just coming onto this thread to nominate Superfly.

Also as a stand alone album (not so keen on the film, or any of Ms Copolla’s efforts for that matter)

BladeRunner for sure, The anime Wings of Honneamise has a beautiful Ryuichi Sakamoto soundtrack, Goodbye Mr Lawrence too.
There was also to be a version of Dune from the mid 70’s which would have had an AMAZING soundtrack; Pink Floyd, Tangerine Dream etc.
