need to get my bb faced, can't get to rutland cycles easily, i will not trust richardsons with an apollo, despite having spent a few hundred quid in billys I find one of there employees a misery.

Only shop i have used for maintenance is the one down regents street, but that was around 1999 are they still good?

I'd be off to JT cycles in Ely if I wanted a reliable mechanic.

hmmm, is he really really good. I live in St.Ives so would travel to cambs then ely (i don't drive) and would need it done on the day as otherwise i'll have to collect the next week. I'll have a look maybe give him a call.

take it to Billys, but ask specifically for Gabe (Gabriel). he'll do it properly and most likely on the spot. tell him Shez sent you his way.

he loves his biking and doing things of a mechanical nature properly. rather than butchering it. failing that, take it down to the ben haywards workshop by the Millpond, the guys in there are pretty legit.

Another recommendation for JT cycles. He built me a lovely set of wheels.

I was there last week and happened to mention BB facing to him. Hes got the equipment and seemed happy to do a frame for me, when I get round to taking it in to him.

Ref your "same day" requirment. Call him and see what he says.

I am also in St Ives and wouldn't trust Richardsons either, so don't blame you there
How about Grafham Water, they have a fairly good workshop or Ben Hayward's in Cambridge or at least their workshop
The head honcho lives in St Ives and used to pick up and drop off a bike for the bloke two doors up from me when he had it serviced

I have a fair selection of tools, workstand and know how (apart from the specialist stuff like facing tools) so if you get stuck get in touch and might be able to help

+1 for JT but call him first.

Jerry's wheels….. I wouldn't have anyone else build me a set. He is the best wheel builder I know.

Not that that has anything to do with facing a BB! 🙂

It's been a while since I've lived in Cambridge but Ben Haywards always did a good job for me.

I'm very tempted to go with JT but it seems such a journey for a bike shop (how near is it to ely station) Thanks for the offer taxi I'm alright for most tools just super expensive ones like cutting tools i don't buy. Also why so many mtbrs around ely 8)

Went to ben haywards in the end, you know a mechanic knows his onions when he wears an engineers jacket. Cheap as well at £10.

I just had some work done at Revel outdoor in Newmarket. Mike (AKA Stovey) works there I had a long talk with him, he knows his stuff & is a total bike nut, he lives and breathes MTB.
    Highly recommended.
