I need some new tyres to replace my balding Panaracer Fire XC’s. I’m not one for fitting condition-specified tyres and prefer just to have one tyre on all year round. Lazy I know! Can anyone recommend a good all rounder? Preferably available in 2.1″ folding.

    Thanks.

Did you like the Fire XCs? I presume you did as you’ve managed to wear them out. Why not just buy more?

I’m changing mine as soon as the winter mud goes, too draggy in the dry although mine are the 2.35 version

Didn’t really like the Fire Xc’s as I found them quite poor in the mud. I can’t really afford to replace them until I have too however!

Maxxis Ignitors – There great! Been using them for a year a half now. Good tyres.

    Kenda Nevegal’s in a 2.1
Try a Stick E on the front and pop a DTC on the rear – gives great confident front grip but doesn’t squidge at the back. They are a lot less draggy than the 2.35 version (which ride a bit heavy in my opinion)

i hated my fire xc’s lasted ages but were rubbish in most conditions

now using spesh captains, which are predictable in all conditions last long time, i think they are very good

I’ll provisionally have the Ignitor if snackmix doesn’t want it.

What size / cpd and how much?

Nevegals 2.1 shed mud better than 2.3s but you’d use 2.1 for xc rather than muds.

Small block 8 for dry summer weather.

You either buy a tire for the conditions or getaway with a mix depending on your riding style and pace/weather/season.

    Bontrager ACX 2.2″

They come up a little smaller than most 2.2’s, more like a 2.1″ really. But they’re a very good all year round tyre. Plenty of people I know swear by them, and I’ve recently fitted a pair and think they’re very good.
