Have a look at bogtrotters website lots of good routes to choose from courtesy of SFB, photos and ride reports give a good idea of what to expect if you are unfamiliar with the area. Grizedale Parkamoor & Coniston loop is a great route really varied.Borrowdale Bash with the cheeky bits is good too.
personally my fave route is to Park in Ambleside climb up onto Loughrigg fell down to Elterwater across to Little Langdale>High Tilberthwaite>Hodge Close>High Oxen Fell>Up to Iron Keld>Down Arnside>Double back through Tongue Intake Plantation> Little Langdale > through Chapel Stile quarrys >Elterwater> Red Bank road > Loughrigg terrace back to Ambleside

I'l ride anything, although being that gravity is only my friend coming down after a long and very cold winter, not ridiculous amounts of steep climbing would be good. Looking for a bit of variety - singletrack, technical, etc

We did a new one (to us) over Winterval, from Coniston up over Grizedale and over to Claiffe, back via Hawkshead and drop back down to Coniston. Superb, one of the best lakes rides Ive ever done, Carron Crag to Satterthwaite just seemd to go one for ages DH.
Snakebite had routepointers from the wonderful SFB.
