Several of the best albums have been recommended on this very forum – and artists that I’d never otherwise happen across.

Steve Mason (ended up seeing him live in Glasgow a few months ago!)
    John Grant
    Villagers
    Robin Trower

UR – Ive wondered a couple of times if your username is a reference to Mr Mills and Mr Banks of Detroit. I guess so….

Hmmm, Metric’s Fantasies is another contender, dammit. As an aside, my tickets for Elbow’s O2 Arena show next March arrived today! Huzza! Standing area too. So looking forward to it.

Loving ‘The Black Keys – Brothers’ at the moment.

OMG, how did I forget! Brilliant record, been getting into their back catalogue too as a result.

I second Foals “Total Life Forever”, but I’ll be listening to some of the other options mentioned in this thread to see if they compare 🙂

As there hasn’t been a new ABBA album released in 2010 your post is irrelevant.

    Caribou – Swim
Steve Mason – Boys Outside, saw him at The Kazimier, Liverpool on the last night of his uk tour, quite simply the best gig ive ever been to, i walk the earth from his king biscuit days was possibly the best piece of live music ive ever heard.

Another vote for Shed – The Traveller

At the pop end of the market:

Ou Est Le Swimming Pool – The Golden Year – Poignant after the fact
    Hurts – Happiness – A grower
Delphic – Acolyte – The new New Order

Absolute winner would have to be Foals – Total Life Forever

but honourable mentions for (most of which have already been mentioned):

Errors – come down with me
    Caribou – Swim
Crystal Fighters – Star of Love
    The National – High Violet
    The Black Keys – Brothers
    Chemical Brothers – Further
Crystal Castles – Crystal Castles II
    Broken Bells – Broken Bells
Two Door Cinema Club – Tourist History
    Yeasayer – Odd Blood

Acolyte was probably the album of 2009 😉

I always like to have a look at Pitchforks end of year roundups. Usually a few hidden gems in there I may have missed.

The top 100 tracks are already up and top albums will follow shortly hopefully.

I’m sure most of those albums are great, but I’ve not heard of most of them. Surely there can’t be a “best” album, only a favourite album of 2010.

Don’t think anyone’s mentioned Kanye West – My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy yet?
