My mate who was left paralysed after a motorcycle accident last year is entering next years Berlin marathon in the handcycle section. He did his first handcycle event at Jedburgh at the end of Sept where he came 3rd (out of 5 – but one of those he beat was an Olympic gold medalist 😉 ).

I’m going with him to help him with the transport of his handcycle. We just just wondering if anyone has done the Berlin marathon before and could recommend a hotel? Two key priorities; first, it must be close to the start of the marathon (presuming it follows the same route every year), and secondly, it must be disabled friendly.

Also, recommendations for getting from the airport into Berlin?

Many thanks in advance for your help.

    Regards

    Neil.

there is a train (RB14 or RE7) from the Schonefeld airport to the centre of Berlin which is cheap and easy. They are roughly every half hour from platform 3 or 4 from the Flughafen station which is about 5 minutes from the airport arrivals. its a Deutsche Bahn service and there are ticket machines in the station but they have english instructions.

havent done the marathon but it starts and finishes at or close to brandenburg gate from the website so if you can afford it, you owe it to yourself to stay at the Hotel Adlon but there are loads on Unter der Linden…. enjoy!

their underground (U-bahn) is awesome, fast and efficient and way cheaper than london too.
