So took this off my spitfire fully expecting it to be the hanger that was bent and that’s straight where as there is a significant bend in the connecting link that runs from (and is permanently attached to) the derailleur, to the hanger.

It’s a 2 year old XT 10spd.

I’m guessing that’s where the mis-alignment is coming from but before I go ham fisted with the vice in an effort not to have to buy a new one?

Bending aluminium back is generally not a great idea.

You can replace the connecting link on XT mechs, about £7 iirc from the Germans depending on which one you need.

Good call mowgli – always heard that shimano stuff was a replace the job lot so didn’t think to search for little part.
Photo on that site confirms it should be straight but I’ll check the model.

Bit shocking that this part went rather than the hanger – just glad it wasn’t the dropout of the frame!!

There’s a few different variants around so be sure you get the right one.

True but better than having it bent. Worst case scenario is the same for both, buy a new one (or a used one from soneone that has a direct mount mech or has bent another part). So no harm in trying to straighten it first really
