We’re thinking of heading up to do the Beinn a’Ghlo loop this coming weekend, and were wondering if there’s much snow on the ground up there at the moment. In other words, is the route bikeable?
It’s the classic route that starts at Blair Atholl, then heads counter-clockwise round towards Fealar Lodge and finishes coming down Glen Tilt. We’ve done it before, but never at this time of year.
I walked the Beinn a'Ghlo ridge a month ago. Not much snow on top. Could see the entire classic bike route and there was no snow on any of it.
I can see patches of snow on the hills. Would imagine the route would be pretty clear. Nice day for it today, cold wind though.
A month ago is a long time in Scotland and we had a huge dump 10 days ago. Glen Tilt may just have escaped on the Southern/Eastern limit of it but I would imagine that it'll need a couple of weeks yet.
Everything was pretty clear until the dump last weekend. On above Aberfeldy Sunday there was 6-9" lying on the tracks at around 350m. Last couple of days has seen significant melt, so you should be fine by the weekend. The only issue you may have is getting across the burn by Falls of Tarf if there is still significant melt water run off. The burns are raging around here ATM even though there's been no rain for days
If there's no snow between now and Saturday we'll maybe go for it then. What's the worst that can happen.......actually, don't answer that.
My pal had his TCL assessment moved from Aviemore to Pitlochry last weekend because there was no snow there so you should be ok.

Been really lovely up here, shame its not going to last. What CaptM said a bout the waterlevel in the burns, might be worth checking out the level in the Tilt before you head up.
We went round yesterday. A few snow patches, and a bit muddy in places, but other than that about 98% rideable. Great day out despite the weather being a bit damp.
