    Realised the bearings were shot last night so tried to remove them this morning by gently tapping them out with the axle.

    Managed to destroy the bearings 🙁 the outer face and balls came away but the shell is still stuck in the hub.

    What’s the best way to remove the shell? It’s currently soaking in penetrating fluid, is it a matter of being patient and then carefully drifting out with a blunt object?

    If the outer race is now stuck In a hole where you can’t get to the back of it then I often use a die grinder and cut a small slot into the race to remove the tension.

    Works with a dremel style tool just be carful not to mark the alloy hub to much

    Thanks – managed to lever it out eventually with a flat bladed screwdriver. Spoke to the LBS who recommended more brute force and ignorance which seemed to do the trick

    if you think you’ll make a habit of it then a blind bearing puller might help;
