how do you stop them itching during the development phase?

I’m afraid you can’t. I usually itch for a few days, then it goes away for a few days, and repeat.

Shampoo it at the same time you wash your hair :]

As it happens, I’ve started to grow a beard this month for the first time ever in my life and find it itchy, but it’s a lot better when you wash it properly!

I normally get to this stage then ditch the idea due to itching. Will try better scrubbing with shampoo.

brush it with a hair brush, even if its really short, it just gives the skin enough attention to stop it itching IME. Also use an exfoliating face wash on your beard keep the skin underneath nice and clean and it’ll itch less. I’m clean shaven at the moment, but i do miss my beard!

Stay with a QR compatible beard (9mm or under) and avoid said itch. I’ve just noticed there isn’t a bearded smiley; why do they all shave?

I would never trust a man (or woman) with a beard, sorry.

Aah the itchy phase. The beard grower’s greatest challenge. Get past the itchy phase and then, only then, can you have a beard. Become as one with the itch.

    In my experience:

Don’t wash! When away on expedition (and thus no washing or shaving facilities for a month or so), beard itch is much less of an issue than when at home. 😉

Think the ed o look is maybe stretching it – more a length like this :

Normally use a i-stuble babyliss thing to maintain a 1mm stubble length but Im going to make a push for the longer look.

Ideally id like to loose bits of food in it or be able to comb it.

Never understood shaving. Why would a man want to look like an prepubescent boy?

There’s something fishy about men without beards – don’t trust them, ladies. 🙂

Your development phase may be my beard phase. Mine’s about 5mm at it’s longest, although normally 3-4 on the Remington scale. I shave my neck once or twice a week and tidy. But haven’t found it itching after a week. Almost a year in now. And red too, of course.

    I have a wife and 3 kids.
I talk endlessly about macho stuff like rugby and football.
I veer just the right side of misogyny so that people think I’m a chauvanist.

    It seems to be working.

drinking real beer (not that soft southern shandy stuff) will help you grow a real beard. as will allowing your gaze to fall upon such northern beauties as these:

dont forget to remind everyone how much better it is where you live, each time you do your beard will grow thicker and stronger.

these my friends are the commandments of beardyness.

I gaze at Northern “beauties” such as that weekly – I work on the Newcastle quayside 😉 to be fair most are better than that.
