  • Bean to Cup Coffee Machine Help?

    Hi Guys,

I currently have an equivalent of the Nespresso Latissima+ (bought from Robert Dyas which takes nespresso pods) and although the quality of coffee is better than our last tassimo, we are thinking due to the price of pods and limited availability within local shops to buy a pod, we would like to change to a bean to cup coffee machine.

We have been looking at the following machines, especially with lattes and cappuccinos in mind –

    Krups EA9010 Full Barista coffee
    KRUPS EA850B40 Espresseria
    Krups EA 8441
    De’Longhi ECAM44.660.B Eletta
    De’Longhi ECAM44.620 Eletta
    De’Longhi ECAM28.465.M Prima Donna S
    De’Longhi Prima Donna ESAM6600
Melitta Caffeo Bistro Fully Automatic Bean to Cup Coffee Maker

We like the simplicity of the Nespresso latissima+ in terms of not having to ground/press the coffee, change arms and use a wand while holding a cup up to it when frothing/heating the milk.
Cleaning up afterwards is minimal with the Nespresso, which is a bonus (especially when you have 3 kids seeking your attention every few mins…).

As you have probably gathered from the above, we are not really experienced in knowing too much about coffee machines or coffee itself for that matter but we know that we love good medium/strong latte’s/cappuccinos every morning and if it wasn’t for the coffee machine we would be at a costa coffee shop every morning and evening.

Any advise or suggestions to point us in the right direction would be appreciated.

    Thank you

    Thread revival…

I searched for Melitta and this pops up – so what did you go with?

I’ve been looking at deals on German websites for the Melitta Solo Perfect for approx £300 – bean to cup auto, but not auto milky drinks (still got the special wand thing though). The full Malitta Barrista version got top marks in a recent review, whilst the Krupps etc, whilst good the reviews seemed to suggest longevity issues.

Pretty sure the lack of responses to the first thread is due to the same advice being asked for every 2-3 months – maybe we need a sticky?

As always, the correct answer is Jura Z5. :). Delicious one button coffee heaven.

i’m sure it’s many more than that 🙂

Those Jura’s are pricy, but i suppose as ever you get what you pay for..

    I’ve recently got a Severin S2+.

It makes coffee just as well (does it..? I suppose it does) as the seimens surpresso it replaced. But it’s fancier, can make cappuchinos and lattes etc etc.
It’s also a whiney little bi£ch asking to be cleaned, descaled, filled up, and massaged and told it’s lovely every 5 seconds!!

In fact, it was that red beaut that prompted the recent first world problem thread!
    Nice coffee though!

Chris, not sure if you’re still visiting this thread. We now have the Delonghi Prima Donna S replacing a Gaggia Titanium. The Gaggia was a pile of crap very tempremental to the beans you used which would jam up the grinder. Needed cleaning often to stop the brew unit from jamming and electronic problems needed microswitches to be tricked into thinking the brewunit was in a different position. Terminal failure gave me the excuse to buy the Delonghi which has made more three times the coffees in less than half the period of ownership as the Gaggia. Fully programmable to get the coffee how you like it and best of all it just works. Cleaning the brewunit is simple as much less moving parts to jam up. Used a variety of beans and the machine just deals with them.

I know it’s not the answer to the question, but if what you’re doing is making strong coffee to go into milk, buy decent coffee and put it through a Bialetti stovetop pot.

I have a Nespresso that i use for making Espresso, and a Bialetti for making latte and Americano.

    Plus an aeropress for travel

Well i’ve just hit the buy button on the Melitta Solo Perfect Delux (supposed to be quieter grinder and have a modified pump for something). Only place i can find it was MaxiCoffee, a French online company. 1 i hope it turns up, 2, i hope it works, 3 i hope i don’t need to send the thing back. it’s just cost £320 with the exchnage rate… lets see.

reviews to come next week hopefully.

So 3 months on and the Delonghi failed!
It just didn’t deliver hot milk, even luke warm milk at times was a task for a machine.
After many hrs of online research, this seems a common problems with most automatic delonghi bean to cup machines.

I have had to return it now and exchange it with a Krup EA9010.
£300 more expensive but its all automatic, including cleaning…
Hopefully this will be the solution!

This thread made me think of a coffee machine I saw a while ago (bean to cup I think) that was programmable/hackable and designed to be so (not an after-market mod). Anyone know what it was?
