After an exciting 2015 with lots of cardioversions and ultimately an ablation I thought I was in the clear. I had set my sights on getting super fit this year and wanted to ride 12k. In the ride this morning (10.5k into yearly total) my HRM showed things were not right.

In trauma room now hooked up to ECG on beta-blockers.

    Yay…

Hopefully they can fix you? Funny a few years ago I thought heart problems were short term “have a heart attack get fixed” now I know it can be long term and destroy your quality for life

oh bugger. failed ablations are not a good sign, with them being the last thing available before surgery.
if you are told that there is nothing else to do, ask to see a specialist who can perform a cox maze procedure. it is full on, but it worked for me.

    keep your chin up mate.

oh, and if you need to know the name of the surgeon who sorted me, feel free to email me.

Best of luck – I’m a fellow AF sufferer, and although I’ve not had an attack for a while as far as I know, I’m sure it will return for me, and it’s a bloody drag. Hopefully at most a touch-up ablation will be needed to rid you of it.

That’s an arse, a club mate had 3 ablations before it was successful, he’s in his mid 60s and is still one of the fastest.
I’ve got a consultation for ablation in a few weeks having suffered for several years. Another club mate is awaiting the date for his. It’s much more common than people think

It’s frustrating to be “grounded”, especially when you had got so close to an impressive annual mileage target. But look on the bright side. You were aware that it could be a problem and acted on the information available, by doing that you will be able to ride again another day. Loads of people don’t get that chance.

Look after yourself and I look forward to reading your updates to tell us you’re back on the bike.

if they put want to put you on warfarin ask about going on a NOAC instead hp, they’re a lot less bother than warfarin, but a bit pricier which is why they may steer you towards warfarin.

Ahh man that sucks – after taking the step to go through the ablation step. I have episodes myself, but don’t have the balls to take the step of having the ablation done.

Hopefully as has been mentioned, it’s just a ‘touch-up’ that’s required and you’ll be right as rain to go again without any more in the future.
