30 years since I left school and I've only ever bumped into 1 person from my year. A re-union was arranged probably 10 years ago, by a girl who was ok, but I think only 5 people were going to attend so it was binned off.
Can't see one happening ever now.
If there was I might go, just to show how I haven't aged and got fat like they all have

School was a difficult, stressful, tense time. No real desire to see how fat, old and bald my acquaintances have become, just to remind me of how irrevocably lost my youth is.

You're still in touch with your few real friends from back in the day and re acquaintance with the rest of your classmates will only serve to confirm why this is.
Pretty much sums it up.
Not really in touch with ex-schoolfriends so much now, but there's a handful that I'd have a beer with and catch up on old times. And then we'd go our own way afterwards. But I wouldn't go to an organised reunion.Freindsreunited was just a temporary phase of "oh great to hear from you, what are you up to these days, I'm doing XYZ", and then it was all back to normality. But I did learn that half the people married their best mate's sister, had 3 kids, then divorced to marry a girl from class 5E (who had been married to and divorced from their best mate). Glad I got out.
Still in contact with a few Uni friends though, but that's mainly due to partaking in the same hobby and/or working in the same business area.

I missed my 20 year reunion last weekend due to a friend's wedding. I was gutted to not be going - judging by facebook, I'm the only one that's not doubled in weight and gone bald. And that goes for most of the women too!
Photos were posted on FB, and I'm glad I didn't go. There's something unsettling about seeing that those lithe, nubile hotties that you used to cop off with have turned into haggered old dogs.

Ah school reunions! It's just a great time for nostalgia. Remembering all the sneaky cigarettes and fingering the girls behind the bike sheds. Oh yes, that caretaker's job was the best I ever had

Yeah, the guys from my boys public school aren't what they used to be.

Ha ha nice one charlie!
I went to my 25 yr one by accident a few months ago, I dont do facebook where the invite came from and happened to be in the same pub that night!
It was OK but some of the guys were really bigging themselves up about what they did job wise, some of the girls still looked nice though.Posted 1 year ago # -
Been invited to one in november, but i wont be going.
Dont really fancy driving for approx 920 miles round trip and getting 2 ferries in the process. Be a different matter if it was local. Get pissed and build a complete facade before disappearing again for 20 years.
Never kept in touch with anyone from school, but I have no desire to make my self feel better / worse about those who have suceeded / failed in life.
Best left in the past I think.Posted 1 year ago # -
Couldn't think of anything worse. I went through this phase when I first joined facebook and suddenly had 130 friends.
They started to arrange a reunion but I had Cull one morning whilst bored as work and de-friended about 129 of them. Was interesting to get a brief outline of where people had ended up but couldn't spend a night in a room with them all.

Met an old school friend via facebook, the bit that grabbed my interest was that his avatar was of a mountain bike in the mud. Added as a friend, started talking and found out that 25yrs since we'd been at school we both loved mountain biking and decided to meet up.
So for the last 18months we've been all over UK with the latest trip to Dartmoor this weekend and a week's bothey / bivvying in Scotland planned for 2011 as neither of us has an overpowering wife that won't let us go out cycling as others who need permission to go to a reunion do seems to require.
We regularly laugh at the posts people up up from our school days and neither of us have any compunction to meet up with them as none of them ride mountain bikes!

I did have an invite for my 10 year reunion - I declined.

do many people here only have friends who ride bikes?

Folk i went to school with and bump into occasionally, recognise me instantly and i'm still scratching my head wondering who the hell it could have been, days later..
I'm glad that's not just me then. I get recognised by people I was at infant school with, I mean WTF?

Have only seen one person occasionally since the day i left. Would be good to go back for a laugh (Wouldn't remember many names) just to see how many had managed to stay out of prison (It were rough!:-))

I went to one, was better than I'd expected, I'm still good mates with a few folks from school though so it's not like it was a room full of basic strangers. Had one great conversation with one guy...
"How come you're not talking to us"
"Well Laurie, you were a c**t at school and it seems like you're still a c**t"
"Oh. Fair enough. Is that why Graham isn't talking to us?"
"I'd imagine so, hang on, I'll check. Oi, Graham?"
"What?"
"Are you not talking to Laurie just because he's a c**t?"
"Well, he always used to be a c**t, what are the odds he's changed?"
"Fair enough"Turns out Laurie had no idea he was a c**t. He was most surprised.
