Dont get the chance to listen much during the day so download the podcasts for bike riding with.
But does anyone find innuendo bingo, where so called celebs spit mouthfulls of water at somebody called Chris, or even find someone else called Charley Sloth funny or entertaining, since Sara Cox went to R2 it just seems to have gone downhill, but at least they got rid of moyles.

Yeah complete turd, you know it’s bad when fearne cotton is the most tolerable listen in the day! What grinds my gears even more are the jeb ends they have on at the weekend or who fill in when others are off! Gemma cairney I wouldn’t brake if I saw her crossing the road, Matt edmonson is a irritating little queef! And that bint who does the chart show is completely devoid of anything that resembles a personality! At the grand old age of 29 I find radio 2 more and more tolerable! Thank god I have an iPod!

I think the last time I listened to R1 out of choice, Zöe Ball had just left the breakfast show, and Chris Evans took over.
    That was it for me.

Radio 1 – MBUK; for the hard of thinking

Radio 2 – MBR; dull, middle of the road

Radio 3 – Not sure there’s a magazine that up its own arse? Maybe Rouler, but never read it.

    Radio 4 – Singletrack; informed, intelligent, self-satisfied.

    Kerrang – Dirt; Wiiiiiillldd – yeah \m/

They moved Dev off the early breakfast recently (4am-630). It won’t be the same driving to work on a Friday morning with no bad, bad, superbaaaaaad women/blokes with asqueaky voices 🙁

Target audience is supposedly some 25 yrs younger than I am…..so I need to get up to speed with one-d apparently

Radio 3 – Not sure there’s a magazine that up its own arse?

Which suggests to me you don’t listen to (probably never have listened to) Radio 3.

I’m sure all stations have their loyal following, it’s just a case of what are you interested in?

    Tip:
    Ingredients:
    iPad
    Youtube app
    Chromecast
    TV

    Method:
    Open Youtube app
Select video by band you like or want to hear
Select the “mix” that appears below the vid
    Cast it

Hey presto – DJ-less radio with videos!
    Who needs radio stations eh?

Worng! It’s my go-to station when I can’t take R4 any more. You know, those unbearable times when John Humphries or The Archers are on.

Mills still wins by a country mile! I’d like to slowly kill Gemma Cairney as she is possibly the most annoying **** to be on the radio since no one I can imagine!

Gemma Cairney is awful – as is Matt Edmondson, Huw Stephens and a few others I can’t even remember the names of.

Biggest disappointment for me at the moment is Zane Lowe – always been a bit of a pretentious git, but seemed to know his stuff and generally actively promote good music. Of late, it seems to be the Zane Lowe hip-hop show and it’s all a load of crap. Occassionally, he might drag an Arctic Monkeys, or Kings Of Leon track out, but then he’ll spoil it by pushing Coldplay’s latest pile of bilge (namely the latest bedwetters offering called ‘Magic’) – makes me want to smash the radio!

I don’t know how they choose the dj’s for radio 1

I think they look for the most irritating gobshites they can find

That Welsh bloke Huw Stephens could be the most annoying person alive, but then if you listen a couple of hours later, there’s bound to be some other nobber that’s at least as bad

And don’t get me started on Grimshaw

I don’t get the age argument. They would have made my blood boil when I was 15.

No it’s shite. I don’t like chart music, I don’t like dubstep, R&B or any other shite on Radio 1. Judge Jules when he used to play Trance and house in the late 90’s early 00’s was when I listened to Radio 1.

Now I listen to ASOT, Future Sound of Egypt and Trance around the world online.

I thought Radio 1 was already at the bottom of ditch that resembles the Mariana Trench, but if you say it has got worse then I will have to trust you on that one.

since Sara Cox went to R2 it just seems to have gone downhill

I had to do a double take when I read that – she’d be my benchmark for a radio station’s low point and she’s now on R2 that’s doomed too.

The last time I listened to radio 1 it was on the way to work at 7:00 in the morning they didn’t play any songs for about 30 mins they just talked utter bull, switched over and never went back……rubbish.

Gemma Cairney, proving that Dev was actually ok
    Grimmy, bearable, but only just
    Cotton, meh
Mills, would be ok if they got rid of that idiot chris
Greg, not as annoying as he used to be
    Zone, I still like

Shame, I like the music, but struggle with most of the dj’s. So 6music at home, mixture of R1, Capital and ClassicFM at work.

    (I’m not target audience btw)

Op you chose to listen to radio1?

Its on at work. Its unbearable. Really is.

R1 very deliberately targets a younger audience, 25 is the upper limit, nearer 18 is the target, if you’re over this age your opinion is of no interest to the BBC looking after that station. Therefore it plays chart music and has dj’s that annoy an older crowd, if it didn’t do this it wouldn’t be hitting its demographic of listeners.

Personally I don’t think it is any better or worse than it always has been, I’m just older with stronger formed music tastes. Zane is still worth a listen to though, he does play the odd gem that I’ve not heard elsewhere.

I’m 28 so over this target audience age and I find these DJs impossible to listen to, so which BBC radio stations target audience do I sit in? Best station I have listened to recently is xfm but they don’t reach my area.

My favourite R1 moment was when Emma Freud played the non-radio version of Creep, at lunchtime and didn’t notice until the very end.

I’ve been using R1 as my alternative station in the car when R2 gets either biblical otherwise unlistenable and have to say I don’t find it that bad. Admittedly I’m not paying a huge amount of attention but the music is ok and the presenters, though mostly a bit slack jawed, aren’t unbearable. Guess I’ve got to start easing myself back into it as with 2 young kids it’s all I’ll be able to have on in the car soon.

i honestly think there’s a fundamental difference between previous generations of old people and their intolerance of youth culture, and this generation of old people (us, basically) and our intolerance of youth culture.

Previous generations have based their intolerance on fear, old people were scared of the beatles, old people were scared of punks, old people were scared of hippies, old people were scared of the rave generation.

    etc.

we’re not scared of Justin Beaber.

we’re not scared of popular youth culture, we’re just disappointed with it. It’s not scary, it’s just rubbish.
