    [grumble]if you’re an engineer, and you want a pay-rise, it seems that you’ve got to become a manager, and stop doing what it is that you’re experienced in / good at.

    it’s not necessarily a good move to become very skilled/knowledgable about something very specific, like siemens plc programming. there aren’t many jobs out there for specialists (the clue is in the description). And there’s a danger of becoming too usefull where you are.

    it’s a very strange way to do things.[/grumble]
